As a highly experienced piano tutor Howard has taught numerous students, many of whom have entered examinations with a high success rate at all levels, including diplomas. He has also successfully prepared students for Further Education and Music College auditions, as well as for specialist music school entry. His private piano teaching practice has encompassed all ages and all levels, with students of mixed ability, some of whom simply want to enjoy their playing.

In his previous role at the University of Salford, from 2007 to 2015, much of his educational skill and experience is evidenced, having had a considerable impact upon the Performance Programme. This included expertly steering all aspects of the performance programme in the Music Directorate, ensuring the quality of its standards of excellence, ensuring its reputation within the University and developing its reputation in new spheres.  He was responsible for the classical performances areas, relating to both ensemble and recital performance, as well as lecturing in historical and analytical areas. Students were also tutored in their dissertations and supervision was given to MA and Doctoral level candidates.

Recent years have seen his expertise used in a number of performance workshops for the some of the UK’s Military Bands, including the Band of Bugles and Rifles, and the Royal Engineers Military Band.
